History
of Rice
Rice is the
world's oldest crop. Archeological records indicate it has been
cultivated and consumed by people for almost 7,000 years.* The
first written records of rice trace back to a rice planting decree
issued by a Chinese Emperor around 2800 BC.

While rice
seems to have originated somewhere in the region of southern China
and Thailand,
its consumption spread and was assimilated quickly into the diets
of India, Central Asia,
Indonesia, Japan, Iran, Pakistan the Mediterranean, and eventually,
the U.S. and South
America. Today, it's cultivated on every continent except Antarctica.
